Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journeys for 2022
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised program that acknowledges the endeavours of our students through Physical Recreation, Skill, Service and Adventurous Journey. Many of the students at St Augustine’s College are already doing these things in their own time and it is great for them to receive recognition.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is undertaken year-round as the students participate in summer and winter sports as well as learn new skills and voluntarily give their time to community service.
One of the highlights and main features of the Duke of Ed program is the Adventurous Journey component, where the students are taken into some of Sydney’s beautiful bushland and learn to be self-sufficient and work together over 2 days (Bronze) or 3 days (Silver). For the time that they are away, they need to be able to navigate, camp, cook and communicate whilst leaving no trace of their presence in the bush.
The Adventurous Journeys for 2022 have now all been conducted, with both our Bronze and Silver cohorts taking hikes in the Great North Walk (Hornsby area), Royal National Park (Heathcote) and Belanglo State Forest (Southern Highlands).
