Expanding Horizons with Surfing Competitions

St Augustine's College is proud to announce the latest addition to our sport and co-curricular program: surfing. This exciting development broadens the array of opportunities available to our students, fostering both physical fitness and teamwork.

Triumph at the Northern Beaches Lifeline High Schools Surf Challenge

On 8 May 2024, ten of our students participated in the Northern Beaches Lifeline ‘High School Tag Team Surf Challenge’ held at Queenscliff Beach. Competing in 50-minute heats, our two teams showcased incredible talent, teamwork, and strategy. Both teams ended with the highest heat totals in their respective heats, securing their progression to the next stage of the competition in June.

Success at the Inaugural Interschool Surfing Competition

Later in the month, from 22-24 May, St Augustine's College was represented by nearly 20 enthusiastic students at the inaugural Interschool Surfing Competition on the Gold Coast. This event brought together over 20 schools, many with long-standing surfing excellence programs. Despite the high level of competition, our students' performances were outstanding.

Our senior tag team, in particular, demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance, advancing all the way to the finals. Although there were a few narrow misses in the individual heats, their impressive accomplishment has set a high standard for future competitions. We look forward to building on this experience and achieving even greater success in the years to come.

Community Support and Team Spirit

The success of our surfing teams was greatly supported by the dedicated parents who travelled with us. Their presence and encouragement were invaluable. The camaraderie and team spirit displayed by our mixed group of Years 7-12 students created a positive and encouraging atmosphere that undoubtedly contributed to our overall success.

The introduction of surfing into our sport and co-curricular program has been a resounding success, as evidenced by our achievements in these recent competitions. St Augustine's College is committed to providing diverse opportunities that enhance the educational and personal growth of our students.
